Standalone 10K
On Sunday 1st October twelve Stags took part in the Standalone 10K.
There were great performances by everyone; David Scott, Oana Labontu-Radu and Anneli Sydenham ran PBs. Alison Hope also earned a PB proving that partying and a lack of sleep the night before is not an impediment to a great performance if you’re determined; keep it up Alison (the PBs! not the partying). Jerry Bryan proved he was on the road to recovery after a series of injuries.
Stephanie De’Ath and Agnes Jacobs had great runs in spite of running a 50K Ultra the previous weekend proving what terrific competitors they are. Agnes suggested there may have been some ‘extremely poor race diary management’ but we’re just grateful there is a race diary and they came.
In terms of the race it was a dry and quite warm morning while the course itself is ‘undulating’. It is a single lap run on roads starting and finishing near Standalone Farm on the outskirts of Letchworth. The location is easy to get to with lots of parking, friendly, chip-timed, well organised and marshalled. We’ll be back next year not least because friend and fellow Stag, Ros de la Bertauche (who competed) lives close to the start and provided parking and much needed refreshments. Thank you Ros (and husband Roy!) for entertaining us so well; it made the race extra special.
David Scott led the Stags home in a time of 50:43 followed by Jerry Bryan (51:24), Stephanie De’Ath (51:51), Dave Byrne (53:30), Geraldine Stapleton (54:25), Ann Phillips (55:28), Agnes Jacobs (55:41), Alison Hope (56:21), Tracey Deeks (57:35), Oana Labontu-Radu (59:12), Ros de la Bertauche (1:00:57) and Anneli Sydenham (1:09:24).
