Standalone 10K incorporating the Herts County Vets Champs

Sunday 6th October saw the final race of the Summer season and it proved to be a great morning for the Stags with a Gold FV45 for Kath March, Silver FV55 for Jo Kent, Siver FV65 for Linda Dworowski and Silver Vets Team for Kath, Jo and Pauline Michael. Our women’s team of Kath, Jo, Ciara McHugh (on her Club Debut!) and Stephanie De’Ath were third. Brilliant!

Twenty-eight Stags took part and there were great performances throughout; Kath led the women home while Ed Fraser led the men home. Will Cooper and Alex Shuker continued their fine form of the Summer and it was great to see Steve Holmes racing for the Club over longer distances again. For the women Di Godin secured a great PB of 58.03 (it would have been sub-58 but for 5 seconds of waving at the photographer!) and Agnes Jacobs and Anneli Sydenham both secured course PBs. Pauline Michael returning to racing after 6 weeks off recovering from broken ribs saw her fine run rewarded with a well-deserved Vets Team silver. Fantastic!

Photographers Sarah Ralphs and Dermot McHugh provided wonderful encouragement on the course while, in addition to racing well, Ros de la Bertauche (ably assisted by husband Roy), provided terrific post race hospitality to the Stags and their supporters and very welcome it was too. Thank you Ros.

In terms of the race it was an overcast and cool morning perfect for racing while the course itself is ‘undulating’. It is a single lap run on roads starting and finishing near Standalone Farm on the outskirts of Letchworth. The location is easy to get to with lots of parking, friendly, chip-timed, well organised and marshalled. We’ll be back next year.
